Music: Level 42

De Montfort Hall, Leicester.

If you’re under 30, one glance at the wrinkles and receding hairlines of pop-funksters Level 42 might make you wonder what on earth they’re doing on the very stage that Elbow and The Kaiser Chiefs will grace in the coming days.

But as anyone old enough to remember the ’80s will know, a band that has shifted 31 million albums has earned the right to play pretty much any venue they choose.

It’s not the original line-up, but the key blokes are still there. So a set bound to include worldwide hits like Running In the Family, Something About You and Lessons in Love will sound nice and authentic.

Phobic about slap bass? Then here's an alternative: Try Richard Gere and Diane Lane’s captivating new romantic film Nights In Rodanthe.
