Villagers vow to fight on to stop developer building 300 homes
Angry residents have vowed to "fight all the way" to block a major housing development which they claim will ruin their village.
Jelson Homes wants to build 300 homes in Melton Road, in Barrow-upon-Soar, but its original application in December last year was rejected.
It was felt the scheme would make the junction of Grove Lane with South Street and Sileby Road more dangerous due to poor visibility for drivers.
Jelson, however, has appealed the decision. A three-day public inquiry in front of a Government planning inspector will take place at Loughborough Town Hall's Victoria Rooms on Tuesday.

Members of the Barrow Residents Action Group (BRAG) say they intend to be there each day to prevent their village being turned into a town.
Spokesman Sandie Forrest said:"The group is not just a few people, it is more or less the whole village of Barrow that is opposed to this scheme and has been for the last two years.
"Barrow has taken an enormous amount of development in the last 20-30 years and we feel the village simply cannot sustain any further large development.
"The amount of new development is now beginning to seriously impact on schools in the village, on the medical facilities, on parking and on the traffic.
"Barrow is still a village and yet we have a rush hour now, such has been the increase in traffic through the village. We are now in danger of being turned into a town and that is what we want to resist.
"Barrow is not a town, it is a village."

“" If they don't want this development then it shouldn't go ahead."
On that basis then no houses would be built near any existing ones”

“The people of Barrow Village do not need to explain themselves to anyone. If they don't want this development then it shouldn't go ahead. Barrow is their home and aren't under any obligation to be reduced to surfs under the interests of the monied few in government and business.”

“Perhaps BRAG ought to campaign for 300 council houses instead, there are enough houses in Barrow for the self satisfied well heeled. What we need is good quality rented homes for those who cannot afford the inflated sales values that developers need to boost their shareholder's dividends.”
