Spend, spend, spend was the name of the game at autumn fair at a city residential home for elderly people with sight problems.

A total of £635 was raised at the event organised by staff at Vista's Kathleen Rutland home in Leicester Forest East – double the amount raised at the last year's event.

Toni Dimmocks, deputy manager of the home, said: "A big thank-you to everyone who supported us.

"We were delighted with the amount raised."

Attractions included stalls run by individuals who had made items such as cards, garden ornaments and knitted cardigans.

There was a miniature steam engine giving rides for children, along with small carts pulled by Bernese mountain dogs.

The money will go into the home's "comfort" fund, which pays for trips and meals out for the 43 men and women living in the home as well as paying for birthday and Christmas presents for residents.
