A woman had to have her wedding ring cut from her finger after it became stuck.

The woman went to Western fire station, in Aikman Avenue, Leicester, at 9.50am on Saturday after her finger became swollen and the ring started causing her pain.

Firefighters removed the ring.

Crew manager Richard Craston, who was on duty at the time, said: "The lady had had the ring on her finger for years, but her fingers had started to swell and I think it had got to the stage where it was beginning to cause her some pain.

"I understand she had visited a jeweller who was not able to help and suggested she came to see us.

"It is quite a simple procedure and it is quite easy for her to have the ring repaired."
